Visas for experts, researchers,
foreign investors and senior executives

Visas for EXPERTS AND RESEARCHERS are to be filed in Brazil by a Brazilian contracting party with the labor authorities.

The following are the requirements for this type of visa:

  • a statement of the contracting party's interest in acquiring the applicant's professional services or copy of the relevant work contract;

  • a recent transcript of the applicant's resumé in threefold along with copies of main academic titles.

Visas for FOREIGN INVESTORS AND SENIOR EXECUTIVES are to be filed in Brazil by the applicants or their duly empowered representatives with the appropriate federal authorities or with a free-trade zone's immigration council, when funds are to be invested in such zones.

The following are the requirements:

  • copies of the applicant's personal and professional identification documents and those pertaining to dependents, if any;

  • power of attorney to a representative prepared at a public notary's office;

  • a recent transcript of the applicant's resumé;

  • for investors, an investment plan in a new business or in the expansion of an existing one (with a copy of its social charter, license to operate and proof of tax compliance), including an initial transfer of a minimum of US$50,000 and a commitment to employ Brazilian work force;

  • foreign capital investment permit issued by the Brazilian Central Bank;

  • work permits for senior executives and validation of their work contracts by the labor authorities;

  • "Good Conduct Certificate" (the original form must be legalized by the Consulate at US$20.00 per document) issued by the State Police Department with jurisdiction over the applicant's place of residence.

In due time, after being notified of the approval of the Brazilian authorities, the Consulate will require the applicant to present the following supporting documents for each person in their parties:

  • a valid (not expiring within 6 months) passport or permit to reenter the US;

  • two filled out copies of a visa application form provided by the Consulate;

  • two recent passport-type photographs.

      *   Non-US citizens are additionally requested to present one of the following:

          - a US resident alien card or
          - a valid entry visa to the US.

A PERMANENT visa is subject to a consular fee of US$ 200.00, plus the applicable fees indicated on the General Information page.
